Chef Eric Gordon began to cultivate his culinary passion on his grandparent’s farm in Camden as a young boy. Eric recalls fond memories of growing produce and watching his grandmother transform it into a meal for the family. Eric’s destiny to become a chef was paving a course to the prestigious French Culinary Institute in NYC.
After graduating, Eric worked in the kitchens of Bayard’s and Lutéce in NYC. He later moved to the beautiful beach city of La Jolla, in San Diego, and worked as a Sous Chef at Fresh to develop his craft. He became the Executive Sous Chef of Grace in Los Angeles, alongside owner Chef Neal Fraser, an Iron Chef America winner. Having made an impression on a well-known NYC restaurateur, Eric was offered a position as Executive Chef at Bond St. in Beverly Hills, CA.
Eric wanted to return to his roots and open a restaurant offering an ingredient-driven menu based on fresh and local products, naturally raised meats and seafood. He believes in South Carolina’s farmers, hence our slogan; Fresh & local, from field to fork. From this, Shag Bistro was born, a testament to a favorite pastime dance he and his mother, Shirley, shared as a child. We feel privileged to support our local community and hope you come to feel the same way about us.
